Paypal Donations
You may have noticed a Paypal “Donate” button has appeared on the side of the site recently. If you haven’t seen it this is what it looks like….
I wanted to take the opportunity here to be completely honest with every single one of my readers and let you know why I have added this to the site. From the very first day I created this site I’ve always had the mindset that everything should be completely free to everyone and I still strongly believe in this. It’s simple, I don’t want to charge you to learn. I’ve also never wanted to make a profit from the site. I’m not interested in making money - I run this site purely to educate people about the beautiful language of Hindi!
But unfortunately the truth is that this site, like everything else in life, costs money. This is why I’ve had to make the difficult decision to add the Paypal donate button to the site.
Let’s be clear, I’m not telling you to give me money. I’m simply asking that if you’ve enjoyed learning from this site (and if you can afford it) then please, donate even just a few dollars to help towards the running costs of the site and help keep the site alive for other readers in the future. If you can’t afford it then that’s completely fine so please don’t feel obliged to donate.
To donate simply click the Paypal donate button at the top of this post, or the one at the side of the page or click here. Don’t worry, Paypal is completely secure and you don’t even need an account. You have my word that the money donated will only ever be used towards the costs of the site.
Thank you so much in advance, बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद bahut bahut dhanyavaad. George.
Can You Help This Blog?
By far the biggest request I get on this blog is for me to put audio files online so that the readers can listen to the words spoken and improve their essential Hindi listening skills. Of course I truly understand just how useful this would be for every learner of the language and so I have been working behind the scenes for a long time trying to figure out a solution to this. Only now have I made progress!
What surprises many people is that I am not actually a native Hindi speaker myself, I just have been studying the language for a while now. This is my problem though, because I’m not a native Hindi speaker I don’t want to use my own voice for the audio files - since my accent and pronunciation may not be what you are likely to come across from a native speaker.

Listening to audio is essential for the learning of any language!
So this is where you come in! I’m looking for your help. Are you a native Hindi speaker? Are you willing to sacrifice 10 minutes or so a week and volunteer to help this website? Would you be able to send me audio recording of your voice for me to put online to help hundreds of potential Hindi learners? Or even do you know a native Hindi speaker willing to do the same?
If so then…
होली मुबारक हो Happy Holi!
I want to wish everyone a very happy, wonderful and colourful Holi! Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, is a Hindu festival that marks the beginning of spring. It’s celebrated with the distinctive throwing of brightly colored powders, people can literally become completely covered head to toe in bright colours! You can learn a whole lot more about Holi, including the all stories behind it, here
In Hindi we say होली मुबारक हो holee mubaarak ho - Happy Holi!

So again, होली मुबारक हो holee mubaarak ho - Happy Holi everyone!
Sorry Everyone!
I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know I am still alive! Unfortunately I’ve been really ill this last week so I haven’t been able to make any new posts. I am much better now though! So I do apolgise to everyone that’s been checking back looking for something new. You can expect to see some new lessons very soon!

Do you you know how to say ‘I was ill’? That’s right we say…
मैं बीमार था main beemaar thaa - I was Ill (said by a male) and…
मैं बीमार थी main beemaar thee - I was Ill (said by a female).
And of course don’t forget you can use the navigation menu on the left hand side of the page to easily find all of the old lessons!
We’ve Moved! (But Not Really)
Look up. Notice anything different? Look again. Seen it? How about now? Ok fine, let me show you…
I’ve moved address! This blog is now hosted on www.learning-hindi.com, instead of the old www.learninghindi.tumblr.com/. But, and here’s the really neat thing, all of the old links and bookmarks still work; you will automatically be redirected to the new page. How cool is that?
Let me just say that again for those not paying attention, all the old links and all your old bookmarks will automatically redirect you to the same page on the new address. You won’t actually ‘see’ anything different, so from your view nothing has really changed. You don’t need to go anywhere else, this page you’re reading right here is still the blog I’m using!
I’d really love it if you could all share the new address with all your fellow Hindi learners, friends, colleagues and just everyone!
As well as all this I now have an email address to go with this new address. So please email me any questions or queries you have to….
george@learning-hindi.com
If you do email me make sure you check your ‘spam’ or ‘junk’ folder for the reply, sometimes Hotmail and Gmail will put my reply to you in those folders!
I hope you’re ready to see plenty of new and exciting Hindi lessons right here very soon!
Note: If you find any problems, faults or ‘dead’ links on the new site then please let me know by emailing me at the address above or letting me know by leaving a comment here. Thank you!
