नमस्ते namaste! This is a really good question actually so thanks for asking it. 

So what is the difference between धन्यवाद dhanyavaad and शुक्रिया shukriyaa? Well the truth is there isn’t one; they both are perfectly correct ways of saying ‘Thank You’ in Hindi! 

The only difference is that the word धन्यवाद dhanyavaad has its roots in Sanskrit whereas the word शुक्रिया shukriyaa comes from Arabic. For that reason शुक्रिया shukriyaa is a lot more commonly used by Urdu speakers and in Muslim communities. But whoever you are speaking to both धन्यवाद dhanyavaad and शुक्रिया shukriyaa are perfectly correct ways of saying ‘Thank you’ and you will always be understood!
